Laila looked out over the convention hall in search of her partner and manager, Trent. Trent, being a skydiving adrenaline-junkie, quickly replied, “Hard-core.” He, of course, was imagining a life full of epic thrills and gripping feats. Laila said, “Elegant.” She pictured wealth, class, glitz and an almost demure glamour. So it told them to each pick one word to describe their new lives together.
It knew that he had to keep them from telling the world of its existence, and the easiest way was to offer them a new life, with no recollection of their previous one. It apparently hadn’t expected anybody to be there at the time, but lo and behold, there was the couple standing agape at the miniature creature. It had appeared before Laila and her boyfriend, Trent, when they were hiking through the woods one night. That was the word Laila had chosen when the imp offered to transform her life.
